When the temperature drops, you may put on a heavy coat, perhaps a hat or a scarf and gloves. But what are you doing to protect your mouth and teeth?

If you have sensitive teeth, the drop in temperature may cause you some discomfort. Since you may be drinking hot chocolate, warm cider, or soup, that may cause your teeth to react as well. You need to speak with your dentist about using a desensitizing toothpaste, or having an examination to see if you have a condition that could be causing your problem.

The sun can be just as tough on your body during the winter as it is in the summer. But we may think about it less because it is colder outside. But the sun, when mixed with the winter wind and the cold can lead to cold sores and chapped lips. You want to protect your mouth from the elements, drink plenty of water, and keep your mouth and hands clean. Using lip balm will protect your from the cold, and from the rays of the sun. Remember that cider? Foods and drinks that have a high acid content can bring on a canker sore.
