Did you know that toothbrushes only last 3-4 months? That means you need a new toothbrush every season of the year. Use this opportunity to treat yourself! There are many colors and styles available, even for adults. You spend a lot of time with your toothbrush; make sure you get one you like.

Other things to consider: make sure your toothbrush is the right size for your mouth. Get one with the softest bristles you can find; hard or stiff bristles actually damage your teeth and gums. Check for the ADA Seal of Acceptance on the packaging. This will guarantee you a quality brush that won’t injure your teeth or gums if used properly.

When using your new toothbrush, make sure you are utilizing proper technique. Brush the inside, outside, and chewing surfaces of your teeth, and spend 2 minutes, twice a day cleaning your teeth.

When storing your brush, make sure it is in a well-ventilated area and stored upright. This will help the moisture drain off, the toothbrush dry out, and the bacterial growth be reduced. Don’t store it around other brushes if you can help it; if you must, be sure the heads don’t touch. Keeping your brush on its own prevents cross-contamination of brushes.
